Mike and Barb founded Hurst Funeral Home in 1995 and are devoted members of the community, where they enjoyed raising their family.  They are both graduates of Greenville High School, with Mike graduating from the Wayne State University School of Mortuary Science and Barb graduating from Western Michigan University.  They married in Greenville at the First Congregational Church in 1966 after Mike returned from serving in the United States Army in Vietnam. They began their married life together in Flint, with Mike working for the Brown & Co. Funeral Home, where he was employed from 1960 to 1972.  They then returned to Greenville to assist Barb’s family with their clothing store, Alma’s Ready to Wear.  After owning and operating Alma’s for many years, Mike and Barb fulfilled their dream of building a funeral home in Greenville.  In 2009 their nephew, Andy Hurst, joined the family business, one that has grown to serve more families than any other in Montcalm County.  Mike and Barb are longtime members of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Greenville, where Mike has served in many capacities, including as elder and officer.  He is a more than 40 year member and past president of the Greenville Lions Club, past president of the Greenville Chamber of Commerce, treasurer of the Education Foundation of Greenville, chairperson of the Greenville Housing Commission, and has been actively involved in numerous other community organizations.  The Hurst's enjoy spending time with their daughters and grandchildren, Kimberly and Christopher Kenward and their daughters Emma and Josie, and Michelle and Patrick Tolliver and their sons Liam and Carson.

Andy, the son of Jim and Paula (Moy) Hurst, is a Greenville native and a 1995 graduate of Greenville High School.  After attending the University of Michigan and Grand Valley State University, he graduated from Worsham College of Mortuary Science in Chicago.  He was employed at Zaagman Memorial Chapel in Grand Rapids for eight years before returning to Montcalm County, where he managed the former McCullough Chapels in Lakeview and Edmore.  In 2009, he returned to his hometown full time to work alongside his family.  In 2016, Andy and his wife, Krista (Hackett), purchased the funeral home from Mike and Barb.  Andy is actively involved in our community, including as a member and past president of the Greenville Lions Club, the Montcalm Community College Foundation Board, and the Greenville Chamber of Commerce.  He is also a past president of the Michigan Funeral Directors Association's Fourth District, and sits on the MFDA's state Grievance and Ethics Committee.  When Andy's not serving families, he and Krista enjoy playing golf, hiking, traveling, and spending time with their nieces and nephews.

Alicia is our newest funeral director, having joined the Hurst team in September 2021.  She graduated from Godwin Heights High School and, after attending Aquinas College and Grand Rapids Community College, went on to graduate from the Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science with a bachelor's degree.  Alicia and her family recently moved to their new home in Gowen.  Alicia's goal is to care for families in need with professionalism and compassion while making a lasting, meaningful impact on our Montcalm County community.

Michelle joined Hurst Funeral Home in 2015 after serving for eight years as Ministry Assistant of First United Methodist Church in Greenville. She and her husband, Phil, have two children: Sarah, who lives in Chicago, and Evan, who is currently studying at the College of Engineering - University of Michigan.

Jerry and Marilyn Jones were married in Wauseon, Ohio, in 1963. They began their married life as dairy farmers in Lenawee County, Michigan. After 28 years of farming, Jerry enrolled at Siena Heights University as the beginning step toward ordained clergy. After receiving a BA degree in Humanities and Psychology, he attended Bangor Theological Seminary, where he received his M.Div. degree. He also has a graduate degree from Northern Baptist Theological Seminary and a Doctorate in Ministry from the California Graduate School of Theology. Marilyn was employed at Spectrum Health United Hospital for 19 years. The Reverend Jones served churches in Maine, Illinois, and Michigan. He retired from pastoral ministry in 2014 after having served as Senior Pastor at the First Congregational Church in Greenville for nearly 20 years.  While in Greenville, Jerry was active in a variety of civic and community leadership roles.  He was the 2013 recipient of the Fred and Lena Meijer Spirit of Caring award. Dr. Jerry has more than 25 years of experience in grief and bereavement counseling.  The Jones’ have a son and a daughter, six granddaughters, and eight great-grandchildren. They now divide their time between Montcalm County and Florida.

Gene and Mary Jo Mount are retired area school teachers and active members of St. Charles Catholic Church and the Greenville community.  The Mount's have three children, and enjoy spending time with family and following the athletic pursuits of their five grandchildren.  Longtime family friends of Mike and Barb, Gene has been proudly associated with the funeral home for more than 20 years, working alongside Mike from day one.
