Obituary for Dorothy Ann Wolf

Dorothy A. Wolf, 90 of Greenville, passed on to eternal life on Thursday, August 8, 2019. Dorothy was born in Portsmouth, IA on June 9, 1929, the daughter of Andrew and Hazel (Bendon) Gau. She grew up on a farm in rural Iowa and after graduating from high school, attended Drake University and Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls, IA. She then taught in one room country schoolhouses in Shelby County, IA. On January 28, 1954 Dorothy married Jack Wolf of Walnut, IA and they began their life together in Michigan. In 1959, she and Jack purchased Wolf’s Jewelers from his uncle, and they worked side by side in the business for 42 years.  Dorothy was actively involved in her community as a member of the Chamber of Commerce, Downtown Retailers Association and Dr. Weaver’s Guild. She was also a member of St. Charles Catholic Church where she served on the Altar Society, helped with funeral luncheons, served meals to the community, helped with God’s Kitchen and was a part of the former St. Martin’s Guild. She enjoyed playing bridge, flower gardening, baking and cooking – especially huge meals for the family at the cottage – but her greatest joy was her family and she loved attending any activity involving her children and grandchildren. Dorothy is survived by her children, Jeff (Sherri) Wolf of Saline and Lori (David) Magirl of Greenville; grandchildren, Andrew (Lauren) Magirl, Carter Magirl, Michael Wolf, and Jennifer Wolf; great-grandson, Owen James Magirl; sister, Lois (Don) Rosenow of Tipton, IA; and brothers, Phillip (Connie) Gau and Dean (Maxine) Gau all of Portsmouth, IA. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack; parents, Andrew and Hazel Gau; and a sister and her husband, Donna and William Buckley.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Dorothy at 11:00 am Friday, August 16 at St. Charles Catholic Church, Rev. Mark Bauer presiding. Visitation will be Thursday from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at Hurst Funeral Home, with the Rosary prayed at 7:00 pm. Interment will be in St. Charles Catholic Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to St. Charles School, American Cancer Society or Parkinson’s Association of West Michigan.
