Obituary for Elwood "Woody" Wayne Hole

Woody Hole, age 73, passed away peacefully on August 25, 2019. He was born in 1946 in Altadena, California, to Doris and Clyde Hole. He graduated from Greenville High School in 1965. In 1966 he joined the U.S. Navy and served with the 3rd Marine Division as a medical corpsman, earning various medals of distinction, including a Purple Heart after sustaining an injury in combat during the Vietnam War. He managed the Meijer gas station for ten years and then worked for Tower Automotive and Lake Design until his retirement. On August 1, 1970, Woody married Paula Everett. They recently celebrated their forty-ninth anniversary. He is survived by his wife Paula; sons, Jeffrey (Jill) Hole of California and Jason (Tiffany) Hole of Montana; grandchildren, Thomas, Laine, Owen, and Austin; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Sandy (Francis) Sloan of Chesaning, Bill (Sandy) Everett of Allendale, and Don (Patsy) Everett of Chesaning; and many nieces and nephews.   Friends and family will remember Woody’s wonderful sense of humor. He enjoyed the outdoors—fishing, hunting, camping, and traveling. He and Paula together explored new places and met interesting people from as far away as Mexico and Nova Scotia, Alaska and national parks all across the United States. Summer or winter, Woody spent hours in his boat or ice shanty fishing for bluegill and perch, a pastime he especially enjoyed sharing with his fishing buddies and grandchildren.  The Mass of Christian Burial for Woody will be celebrated at 11:00 am Thursday, August 29, 2019 at St. Charles Catholic Church, Rev. Michael Cilibraise presiding.  Visitation will be Wednesday from 5:00 to 8:00 pm at Hurst Funeral Home, where the Rosary will be prayed at 7:30 pm.  There will also be visitation Thursday from 10:00 to 11:00 am at church prior to Mass.  Private interment will be in St. Margaret Cemetery.  Memorial contributions may be given to St. Charles School or the Metron of Greenville Activities Fund, and memories and messages of condolence may be shared at www.hurstfh.com.
