Obituary for Thelma Caverley

Thelma (Scheid) Caverley, age 90, passed away Monday, February 4, 2019.  Thelma was born August 4, 1928, the daughter of George and Lena Scheid.  She was a graduate of Belding High School.  On November 27, 1948, she married Dickerson Caverley.  Thelma and Dick bought and moved to their dairy farm outside of Greenville in 1960, where they raised their six children.  Thelma was an active member of St. Charles Catholic Church, serving as Eucharistic Minister, Minister of Hospitality, and in many other areas of the church.  After retirement, she enjoyed volunteering at Spectrum Health United Hospital in their gift shop and wherever she was needed.  She also volunteered at the blood drives at Greenville Tool and Die for many years, where the employees loved her baked goods.  Thelma and Dick began playing golf in their 50’s, and it became a true passion, especially for Thelma.  She played on various leagues over the years and was still playing into her mid 80’s.  But family always came first, and she truly loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, rarely missing an activity they were involved in.  Thelma was preceded in death by her husband, Dick; parents, George and Lena; and siblings, Dick, Howard, Harold, Doris, and Paul.  She is survived by her children, Larry (Cherilyn) Caverley, Dennis Caverley, Tim (Sally) Caverley, Betsy (Brian) Becker, Pat Caverley, and Jenny (Quentin) Nelson; grandchildren, Tammy (Eric) Sorensen, Matt Caverley, Leslie (Kevin) Phillips, Miranda (Rick) Foss, Andrew Caverley, Tara (Carl) Utess, Kelli (Erik) Olson, Sarah Caverley, Zachary Caverley, and Aaron (Rebecca) Caverley; 12 great-grandchildren; and brother, Jack (Marianne) Scheid.  Thelma’s family would like to especially thank her caregivers at St. Ann’s Home for the wonderful care they provided the last few years of her life.  The Mass of Christian Burial for Thelma will be celebrated at 11:00 am Saturday, February 9, 2019 at St. Charles Catholic Church, Rev. James Wyse presiding.  Visitation will be Friday from 1:00 to 3:00 and 5:00 to 7:00 pm at Hurst Funeral Home, where the Rosary will be prayed at 7:00 pm.  Private interment will be in St. Charles Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Spectrum Health Foundation United and Kelsey Hospitals.
