Obituary for Gerald Lee Knapp

Beloved family man, Gerald L. Knapp, 80 of Turk Lake, Greenville, Michigan, passed away peacefully at home with family in attendance on Thursday, November 29th under the wonderful care of Spectrum Hospice. He was born on February 28, 1938 in Greenville, the son of Arthur and Margaret Knapp. Gerald graduated from Greenville High School in 1956 and worked as a residential builder.  He was an avid fisherman and a golfer.  He truly loved to spend the winter months in Florida, where he fished.  His life was lived with a high degree of integrity.  He was a humble man who never spoke ill of anyone.   Gerald is remembered for his ready smile and an earnest willingness to assist people of all walks of life.  Gerald will be dearly missed by his cherished family and friends.  Surviving are his wife, Marilyn (Switzer) Knapp;  two children, daughter Lisa and Todd Andersen of Greenville and son Troy and Marie Knapp of Virginia; two grandchildren, granddaughter Chelsea and Marcus Kiste and their children, Brennen, Alexus and Andrew and grandson Travis and Britney Burtenshaw and their children, Aspen, Emmett, Alexis, and Noah.  Also surviving are sister, Alice and Leland Jensen of Edmore;  brother, Robert and Betty Knapp of Greenville; two brothers-in-law, Dale Switzer of San Diego, and Earl and Char Switzer of Greenville; and a sister-in-law Roz Wilcox of Grand Rapids; along with numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Roger Knapp; a great nephew, Nathan Jensen; and two brothers-in-law, Charles Switzer and Richard Lyle Wilcox; and a sister-in-law, Constance Switzer. In keeping with Gerald’s wishes, he has been cremated and a memorial service will he held Tuesday, December 4, 2018 at 11 AM with a visitation beginning at 10 AM at Hurst Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Flat River Community Library, the Humane Society, or the Commission on Aging. Memories and messages of condolence may be sent via www.hurstfh.com.
